Be present: Set aside distractions and other tasks, and give verbal and non-verbal cues that you are listening.
Be open: Allow the other person to be vulnerable and don't expect them to act or feel in a certain way.
Be compassionate: Have the courage to be present with the other person's pain.
Be non-judgmental: Support the other person without judgment or conditions.
Be self-aware: Set aside your own agenda and ego.
Keep their power: Avoid making decisions for the other person, as this can make them feel helpless.
Let them cry: Sometimes crying is the best thing you can do to clear your vision.
